Foreign observers to attend the ‘West 2013’ strategic exercise

Yury Zhadobin, the Minister of Defence of Belarus, has told journalists that Belarus has invited foreign observers from Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine and Poland, as well as representatives of the military and diplomatic corps of foreign countries accredited at the Belarusian Defence Ministry, to attend the active phase of the ‘West 2013’ exercise.

Initiation of criminal proceedings against several executives of CJSC Belarusian Potash Company: competent commentaries

The Belarusian Investigative Committee has reported that criminal charges have been brought against several executives of the ZAO Belarusian Potash Company who had abused their official powers for personal gain over a long period. The abuse had resulted in considerable economic and reputational damage to OAO Belaruskali and the joint Russian and Belarusian company, CJSC Belarusian Potash Company. Pavel Traulko, a spokesman for the Investigative Committee commented on the situation in an interview with a BELTA correspondent.

Minsk hosts the fifth visiting session of the Advisory Committee on Customs Regulation

On 28 August Minsk hosted the fifth visiting session of the Advisory Committee on Customs Regulation. The session was chaired by Vladimir Goshin, a member of the Board for Customs Cooperation (the Minister for Customs Cooperation) at the Eurasian Economic Commission. Lithuania waives fees for cleansing trucks from African swine fever

Due to African swine fever, Lithuania will not be collecting payments for the disinfection of freight traffic at the border for the time being. BELTA has learned that the decision was made by Algirdas Butkevicius, the Prime Minister of Lithuania, after talking to representatives of the European Commission, which is likely to cover the costs.

ECE may tighten conditions for trade relations with Ukraine ahead of its accession to WTO

The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has reported to the Prime agency that the Customs Unions of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan may change the conditions for trade relations with Ukraine should Kiev sign an association agreement with the European Union, however the conditions will still be no tighter than those for other WTO countries.
