As of May, 15 Belarusian customs to tighten supervision over goods transit for private use

As of May, 15 in 2008 State customs committee of Belarus tightens the supervision over the transit of goods by individuals for private use across the state customs border.

According to the information given by the press service of State customs committee, in compliance with the Provision confirmed by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus as of October, 15, 2008 № 503 when referring the goods transported across the customs border to the goods of private use the character of the goods quantity as well as the frequency of their transit across the border by individuals.

As Sergei Borisyuk, deputy chairman of State customs committee explained to journalists the ordering of the goods transit across Belarusian customs will have to do with individuals who transport the commercial products under the pretence of ones for private use duty-free. Recommendation won’t be applied to tourists and individuals working abroad as well as to drivers of the vehicles constantly hauling abroad.

The guidelines will order the transit of goods for private use by individuals and determine the distribution of the authority when decision making of the customs official about the destination of the goods being transported.

As S.Borisyuk said in accordance with the recommendations the rights and responsibilities of the customs inspector that will monitor the process of transit of goods for private use have been defined. In case when an individual disagrees with the decision of the customs inspector the right to address the supervisor of the inspector is granted.

As the representative of the State customs committee explained prerequisites that won’t give the possibilities to run illegal business are being created. Apart from that he added that the old norm regarding the possibility to transport duty-free 35 kilo of goods to the tune of one thousand euro remains.
