Anatoly Serdyukov, Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, believes bilateral military cooperation between Belarus and Russia to be rather effective and running ahead of schedule.

“The plan of bilateral military cooperation is being fulfilled rather efficiently, even ahead of schedule,” stated Serdyukov at the press conference summing up the meeting of the joint board of the two countries’ military departments.

Under his words, this meeting has become a successive step towards improvement of military as well as military and technical cooperation between Belarus and Russia.

“For instance, as regards joint support of regional forces group and cooperation in the sphere of electronic warfare. Fulfillment of the agreements reached will to a considerable degree influence further prospects of Belarusian-Russian military cooperation,” noted the minister.

First of all, he added, it concerns elaboration of an effective legal mechanism which will ensure functioning of an efficient system of the Union State armed defence.

In his turn, Colonel General Leonid Maltsev, Belarusian Minister of Defence, informed that this year Russia and Belarus plan to sign two agreements – on joint support of regional forces group of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation as well as on cooperation in the sphere of electronic warfare. “The board has resolved to complete the harmonization of draft agreements within this year and to sign them as soon as corresponding authorization has been received,” said A.Maltsev.
