In 2013 the Army of the Russian Federation is to take part in 11 international exercises. The major ones are the exercises with U.S. forces – “Atlas Vision”, Indian Armed Forces – “Indra”, Italian Armed Forces – special exercise in the mountains, Mongolian Armed Forces – “Selenga”, Armed Forces of Ukraine – “Slavyanskoe Sodruzhestvo”, as well as tactical exercises with military units of Germany and Armenia.
It is also planned that the joint strategic command post exercise with the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus “Zapad-2013” will be conducted on the territory of the Western Military District.
During this combat training special emphasis will be laid on inter-branch troops training exercises. In 2013 at least half of the training time will be devoted to this purpose. It is also intended to conduct command post exercise (CPE) with the forces in operation sectors under the leadership of District Commanders.
In 2013 High Command of the Land Force plans to devote much attention to training of the combined arms teams. They are included in a significant number of CPE, both unilateral and bilateral, which should foster effective teamwork of the headquarters and improve the way officers direct troops in various types of combat, taking into account the experience gained from modern wars and armed conflicts. Besides that, a considerable number of the brigade tactical exercises is to be held throughout the year.
This year it is planned to continue upgrading the training facilities for combat training. In particular, army and brigade firing grounds will be provided with new ground equipment.
